JOHN BARRETT BIO

John Barrett has had one of the most illustrious and amazing careers one could ever imagine. After a memorable tour of duty with the Marines in Vietnam, John joined the Washington DC Metro Police.  In 1972, John was one of the officers who arrested the Watergate Burglars inside the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate in Washington DC. He subsequently testified during the Watergate trial. In later years, he went on to appear on G. Gordon Liddy’s (convicted Watergate conspirator) radio show several times.

After retiring from Law Enforcement as a detective, John worked with Barbara Newman to produce numerous documentaries for the History Channel and Discovery Channel.  In between all that, John did a stint as an international police task force officer in Bosnia!

John’s unique on-the-ground experience during some of history’s most important moments, coupled with his experience in producing real life documentaries bring a rugged reality to his role as a judge for The NewsFest – True Stories” International Film and Writers’ Festival.

We are honored to have him as a judge.
